POP MUSIC VOLUME 1

Prescription music. Timbres as treatments. Melodies for maladies. Welcome to Pop Music.

  • Once the exclusive domain of homebrew psychoactive collectives and sound bath enthusiasts, aural medication rose to prominence in the early 2000’s with the re-appropriation of the three minute pop format and considerable progress in the physiological efficacy of high-fidelity digital formats. Perfectly portioned, consistently executed combinations of timbres, rhythms, and harmonies could now be self administered by patients in the comfort of their own home or anywhere a portable music player and three minutes of mindfulness would allow.

Over the following 20 years, aural medication would rise to eclipse sales of all historical musical forms, dominating sales charts and awards ceremonies around the globe. It’s popularity was perhaps best cemented by the Global Medical Council’s 2018 report on the Statistical Evidence of the Impact of Polyrhythms and Tonal Dissonance on General Anxiety Disorder (GAD), eclipsing sales of all other previous known ailments combined within a 12 month period.

While still an emerging and fractured field, heavily influenced by both cultural and geographical soundscapes, core forms and progressions have developed along individual therapeutic tracks, specifically in the fields of mental health, non-essential organ regeneration, and probiotics.

Pop Music Volume 1 is a collection of six iconic treatments from the period 1988 - 2018, most of which are still prescribed in Western medicine to this day. They are presented here alongside their mostly recently updated pharmacological scripts, accompanied by a series of original images inspired by conversations with their chemical development teams.

    Please enjoy strictly as prescribed.
